MUZYKA Iryna Volodymyrivna — a well-known specialist in the field of history and theory of state and law, history of political and legal doctrines, philosophy and sociology of law, senior researcher at the Department of History of State and Law of Ukraine, Candidate of Law (1996), Associate Professor (2000).
She graduated from Kyiv Secondary School No. 179 (1974), Faculty of Law of Kyiv State University named after T. G. Shevchenko (now Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko) (1982). She worked as a secretary of the Zaliznychny District Prosecutor's Office (1974-1979), an intern of the People's Judge of the Moskovsky District People's Court (1982), a consultant, later a senior consultant on legal propaganda of the Kyiv Department of Justice (1983-88) (all — Kyiv)).
At the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine since 1988: junior researcher, since 1996 researcher, since 2000 senior researcher, since 2004 deputy head of the department of historical and legal studies.
At the same time, part-time: professor of the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine (1997-2013), associate professor of the Kyiv University of Law (1998-2009), associate professor of the PrJSC VNI of the National Academy of Management (2006-2014). Member of the International Association of Legal Historians (IAHL) (since 1998). Since 2006, she has served as secretary of the section on the history of state and law of the Scientific Council of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the coordination of fundamental legal research, since 2009 - scientific secretary of the Commission on the History of Ukrainian Law under the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, since 2020 - member of the Commission for the Study of the History of Ukrainian Law under the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Scientific research: history of the state and law of Ukraine, history of political and legal thought, sociology of law, philosophy of law, theory of state and law, monuments of Ukrainian law, legal biography, concepts of Ukrainian statehood of Ukrainian political parties, theoretical and methodological problems of modern historical and legal science, legal registration of the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state.
Defended her PhD thesis («The idea of multi-party system in Ukrainian political and legal thought and state-building practice of the last quarter of the 19th century — first quarter of the 20th century») (1996).
Main works.Author of over 200 scientific works, of which over 70 scientific works in professional publications and collections of scientific works. In particular, individual: «Political monism and the establishment of a one-party system in Ukraine» (K., 1995), «Constitutional and legal status of political parties in Ukraine» (K., 1997), History of doctrines about the state and law. Methodological materials and recommendations(K., 1999), «Essays on the history of law and philosophy of law» (K., 2017); collective: «The Constitution of Ukraine and the foundations of jurisprudence in school: a book for teachers» (K., 1999), «Legal ideology and law of Ukraine at the stage of the formation of a totalitarian regime. 1929-1941» (K., 2001), «Legal custom as a source of Ukrainian law of the 9th-19th centuries» (K., 2006), «Judicial power in Ukraine: historical origins, patterns, peculiarities of development» (K, 2014).
She participated in the preparation of leading encyclopedic publications of Ukraine. She is the author of over 70 articles in such publications as: «Ethno-national development of Ukraine. Terms, definitions, personalities» (1993), «Small encyclopedia of ethno-state studies» (1996), «Legal encyclopedia» (1999-2004), «Historical and political lessons of Ukrainian statehood. Encyclopedic Dictionary» (1998), «Anthology of Ukrainian Legal Thought» (2002-2004), «Political Encyclopedic Dictionary» (2004), «Great Encyclopedic Legal Dictionary» (2007), «Historical Encyclopedia of Ukraine» (2006), «Great Ukrainian Legal Encyclopedia» (2016, 2017).
Prepared 6 candidates of science, specialists in the field of legal history. She supervised graduate students D. I. Panov (defended in 2012) and I. Yu. Panova (defended in 2014), applicants M. M. Matskevich (defended in 2002), O. M. Voloshchenko (defended in 2008), I. I. Shevchuk (defended in 2008), and M. Y. Gavretskaya (defended in 2015).
