On February 20, 2025, at the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretskyi National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine hosted an international scientific and practical conference "Founder of Ukrainian academic legal science and education, Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine» on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the birth of V.M. Koretsky.

The organizers of the conference were the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, as well as other scientific institutions and institutions of higher education. The conference was attended by leading legal scientists of Ukraine, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, their branches, Acting the head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, a judge of the European Court of Human Rights, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, people's deputies of Ukraine, academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society institutions, doctoral students and postgraduate students.

The director of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician and vice-president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored lawyer of Ukraine Olexandr Skrypnyuk. In his speech, Olexandr Skrypnyuk congratulated the conference participants and voiced the role of Volodymyr Koretskyi in the establishment of the Institute, academic legal science and education, whose name is inscribed in golden letters in the history, theory and practice of international law, national and international jurisprudence. "That is why we have gathered to honor and honor his memory for his great work both at the Institute and on the international arena", — emphasized Oleksandr Vasyliovych.

Olexandr Skrypniuk, inviting the first vice-president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Olexandr Bandurka, noted that the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, active member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Zhuravel was included in the organizing committee of the conference. On behalf of the Presidium of the National Academy of Legal Sciences, Oleksandr Bandurka congratulated the participants of the conference and identified Volodymyr Koretskyi as the founder and flagship of Ukrainian legal science and education.

Olexandr Petryshyn, Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Doctor of Legal Sciences, professor, active member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine, continued the story about Volodymyr Koretskyi as the founder of the law school and education. As Oleksandr Petryshyn noted, the list of co-organizers of the conference includes the leading law schools of Ukraine, in fact, this is the Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, National University of Law named after Yaroslav the Wise, Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Lviv Ivan Franko National University — this testifies to the breadth of views of the person who laid the foundations of academic science and education in Ukraine as a whole.

«He was ahead of his time in the development of international law. First of all — this is a concept of international economic law», — these are the words that began the story about the scientist Koretsky Olexandr Merezhko, People's Deputy of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation. Volodymyr Koretsky, — as Aleksandr Merezhko noted, — was one of the developers of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular, in the first article that was formulated by scientists, he insisted on including the right to prohibit discrimination.

Anatoliy Hetman, rector of Yaroslav the Wise National Law University, doctor of legal sciences, professor, active member (academician) of the National Academy of Law of Ukraine addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech. The scientist emphasized that the holding of this conference — this is not only a tribute to the memory of Volodymyr Koretsky, as well as carrying out the glorious traditions of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky with other scientific and educational institutions honoring our predecessors. Anatoliy Hetman also noted that Volodymyr Koretskyi wrote his name as a specialist in international law in the history of world and Ukrainian science. For nearly 40 years, the life and scientific path of Volodymyr Mykhailovych has been connected with the National University of Law named after Yaroslav the Wise.

Congratulatory words were also addressed to the participants of the conference: People's Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Velichkovich; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States of America (2010–2015) Olexandr Motsyk; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in Switzerland (2008–2014), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Principality of Liechtenstein (2009–2014) Igor DIR; judge of the European Court of Human Rights, candidate of legal sciences, associate professor Mykola Hnatovskyi; doctor of legal sciences, professor, head of the department of European law of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Mykhailo Mykievich; doctor of legal sciences, professor, director of the "Yuridyka" publishing house; Kateryna Golovko.

After the introductory and welcoming remarks, the main part of the conference began, at which leading scientists gave speeches dedicated to the Founder of Ukrainian Academic Legal Science and Education, the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine — Volodymyr Koretskyi.

On the first panel "V.M. Koretsky — outstanding scientist, organizer of Ukrainian academic legal science and education, member of the Permanent Chamber of the Court of Arbitration, vice-president of the UN International Court of Justice spoke Olexandr Skrypnyuk, director of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored lawyer of Ukraine. In his report, V.M. Koretsky — outstanding domestic scientist, organizer of Ukrainian legal science and legal education once again emphasized the role of the scientist in the formation and development of international law, its various branches and institutions. The scientist noted that, working in international organizations, participating in international forums, For many years, Volodymyr Koretsky defended national interests on the international arena, contributed to the strengthening of world peace, international security, the protection of the sovereign rights of peoples, the establishment of equal international cooperation, a fair international legal order, and the establishment of legality in the practice of international law. " Therefore, the formation of domestic legal science is largely associated with the name of the outstanding Ukrainian jurist, specialist in international law, international private law and the history of the state and law, one of the drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, judge of the UN International Court of Justice Volodymyr Mykhailovych Koretskyi, — emphasized Oleksandr Vasyliovych.

Koretskyi, judge of the UN International Court of Justice, on the development of international law» — Olexandr Vodyannikov, candidate of legal sciences, senior project officer of the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine; "Resolution of non-international disputes with the participation of international organizations" — Syroid Tetiana, Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of the Department of International and European Law of Kharkiv National University named after V.N. Carazine; «Scientific and practical significance of academician V. M. Koretsky: modern dimension» — Andreykiv Andriy, candidate of legal sciences, LLM Program School of American Law, Chicago Law College, Illinois Polytechnical Institute, adviser to the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

On the second panel "Conceptualization of the international legal entity’ of the Ukrainian state, teachings on sovereignty, human rights and freedoms, rights and obligations of states. The contribution of the Ukrainian academic legal community to the codification of international maritime law, the law of foreign relations, the formation of private international law, of international economic law, theory and practice of international justice" was moderated by Natalia Kaminska, doctor of jurisprudence, professor, leading researcher of the Department of International Law and Law of the European Union of the Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; "The influence of Russian aggression against Ukraine on the transformation of the legal paradigm of space activity" Natalia Malysheva, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, chief researcher of the Department of Agrarian Problems of Land, Environmental and Space Law of the Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;«Scientific heritage of V. M. Koretskyi and its significance for the formation of international security» — Dmytro Bezzubov, doctor of legal sciences, professor, leading researcher of the Department of Public Administration and Administrative Law of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; " The illegality of the use of thermonuclear weapons in the opinion of the outstanding scientist V. M. On the third panel "Scientific work of V.M. Koretskyi and Ukrainian scholars of international law, history and theory of the state and law, constitutional law, administrative law, comparative jurisprudence" gave reports: Academician V. M. Koretsky as a legal historian and translator of "legal monuments" — Ihor Usenko, candidate of legal sciences, professor, head of the Department of Historical and Legal Research of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; " Institutional memory of V.M. Koretskyi and the modern international mission of Ukraine»Mykola Marchenko, candidate of legal sciences and other scientists, practicing lawyers.

According to the results of the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Founder of Ukrainian Academic Legal Science and Education, Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine» A collection of scientific papers about the founder of Ukrainian legal science, Volodymyr Mykhailovych Koretsky, will be published.
