Legal science in Ukraine: genesis, current state and development prospects

October 9, 2024 at the Institute of State and Law named after The All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference "Legal science in Ukraine: genesis, current state and prospects for development" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Institute was held at V.M. Koretskyi National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The conference was attended by leading legal scholars of Ukraine, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, judges of the Supreme Court, managers of other state bodies, as well as scientists and teachers of higher education institutions, representatives of civil society and mass media.

The director of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored lawyer of Ukraine Olexandr Skrypniuk made an opening speech at the conference. In his speech Oleksandr Vasyliovych, in particular, congratulated the participants of the conference and announced the main historical origins of the Institute, as well as the role of Volodymyr Koretskyi in the establishment of the Institute. The formation of domestic legal science is largely associated with the name of an outstanding Ukrainian jurist, specialist in international law, international private law and the history of the state and law, one of the developers of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, judge of the International Court of the United Nations Volodymyr Mykhailovych Koretskyi.</p >

Congratulatory remarks were made by: Olexandr Petryshyn, judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, active member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine; Victor Horodovenko, judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, honored lawyer of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.

After the introductory and welcoming remarks, the main part of the conference began, at which the leading scientists of our country made presentations on topical issues of the current state of legal science in Ukraine and the prospects for its development. In particular, the following spoke at the conference: Ihor Usenko, head of the historical and legal research department of the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, candidate of legal sciences, professor, honored lawyer of Ukraine; Yuriy Barabash, academician-secretary of the Department of State-Legal Sciences and International Law, vice-rector for scientific-pedagogical work and strategic development of Yaroslav the Wise National University, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Vasyl Kostytskyi, president of the Association of Ukrainian Lawyers, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine; Nataliya Parkhomenko, head of the Department of Theory of State and Law of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of legal sciences, professor, academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored lawyer of Ukraine; Anatoly Kolodiy, chief researcher of the Institute of Law-Making and Scientific-Legal Expertise, doctor of legal sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Olexandr Kostenko, leading researcher of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctorof legal sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Iryna Kresina, leading researcher of the Institute of State and Law named after V. M. Koretsky of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of political sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc.

During the speeches of leading Ukrainian scientists, the current problems of the transformation of Ukrainian legislation in modern conditions were discussed, in particular, the issue of streamlining legislation as a way to increase its effectiveness at the current stage, trends in the development of modern Ukrainian legislation, compliance of Ukrainian legislation with international legal and, in particular, European standards and values, methodological principles of national security of Ukraine, etc. In general, a wide variety of theoretical and theoretical-applied problems were considered and discussed within the conference of legal science in modern conditions, as well as the trends and directions of the most relevant legal research related to the legal provision of post-war recovery and further development of Ukraine as a European, democratic, legal state.
