Justice in national courts in war crimes cases
On October 24 and 25, 2024, the USAID "Justice for All" program in cooperation with Ukrainian and international partners, held the Second Annual Conference "Justice in National Courts in War Crimes Cases", which this year was held in Kyiv under the slogan "Defending the Inevitability of Punishment".
More than 170 participants, including people's deputies, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, scientists, representatives of civil society and international donors, as well as experts from the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, the Netherlands and Germany, identified and discussed challenges, that appear before the justice system when considering war crimes cases, and recommended ways to solve them, taking into account the best national practices and the experience gained by the international community.
Discussions during the conference focused on the progress made in implementing expert recommendations on strengthening the legal framework, strengthening the professional capacity of judges and defense lawyers, and improving the judicial administration of war crimes cases.
The conference was attended by the head of the department of the Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Zoya Zaginei-Zabolotenko is a leading researcher in the department of Oksana Kvasha. Zoya Zaginei-Zabolotenko took part as a speaker in the first session of the conference "Consideration of war crimes cases in the courts of Ukraine: current state of affairs, existing challenges and solutions to ensure the right to a fair trial". focusing on the main results of the monitoring of war crimes proceedings (second stage), which was carried out during December 2023 — May 2024.

Leading researcher Oksana Kvasha spoke at the fourth session of the conference "Presentation of the interactive database of court decisions in war crimes cases", talking about the content of digests and comments about war crimes in this interactive database.
