International Center for Legal Problems of Intellectual Property

The head of the International Center for Legal Problems of Intellectual Property at the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine (part-time) is Boshitsky Yuriy Ladislavovych.

BOSHYTSKY Yuriy Ladyslavovych — Senior Research Fellow at the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine (part-time), Professor, Candidate of Law, Rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the NAS of Ukraine.

In 1985, after graduating from the Law Faculty of the Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, he worked at the Ministry of Justice of the Ukrainian SSR as a consultant and chief consultant. Since 1986, at the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine, he has worked his way up from junior, research, senior research fellow in the Department of State and Legal Problems of Management (from 1986-1996), senior research fellow in the Department of Civil, Labor and Business Law (from 1996) to head of the International Center for Legal Problems of Intellectual Property at the Institute (from 2001).

In 1989, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Law.

From 2002 to 2006, he headed the Educational and Advisory Center of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Uzhgorod (part-time).

Scientific achievements: consists of over 160 scientific works, including 3 individual and 15 collective monographic works, 3 textbooks, 140 scientific and scientific-journalistic articles. Author of articles on intellectual property law in the 6-volume Legal Encyclopedia, the Great Encyclopedic Legal Dictionary, the Encyclopedia of Civil Law, etc.

The main areas of scientific activity: related to the study of the theoretical foundations of intellectual property law, problems of copyright and industrial property law. The subject of his research is the legal protection of commercial designations in Ukraine and the harmonization of domestic legislation in the field of intellectual property with international law.

He actively contributes to the creation of a domestic school of intellectual property law. Under his leadership, 3 postgraduate students defended their PhD theses, 9 postgraduate students and applicants are researching the most relevant aspects of intellectual property law.

Legislative work: participated in the working group on the development of Book Four of the new Civil Code of Ukraine, is one of the authors of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Scientific Discoveries", a member of the working group of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the preparation of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education" in accordance with the requirements of the Bologna Process.

Awarded: Special distinction of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine at the 5th All-Ukrainian competition for the best legal publication for the collection of scientific works "Intellectual Property in Ukraine: Problems of Theory and Practice" (2003); Yaroslav Mudry Prize for the preparation and publication of textbooks for students of legal specialties (2004);Special award of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine at the 6th All-Ukrainian competition for the best legal publication for the collection of scientific works "Industrial Property in Ukraine: Problems of Legal Protection" (2005); First prize of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine at the 6th All-Ukrainian competition for the best legal publication for the monograph "Current Problems of Civil Law and Civil Procedure in Ukraine" (2005); Jubilee Medal of the V. M.  Founded an art and legal project for lawyers, students and artists — «Intellectual Property in Ukraine: Pearls of Contemporary Art», within the framework of which 8 exhibitions of masters of the brush were organized and held in the best art galleries of Kyiv and at the Kyiv University of Law of the NAS of Ukraine.
