SIRYI Mykola Ivanovych — Senior Researcher of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, Candidate of Law.
He received his higher legal education at the Kharkiv Law Institute (now Yaroslav the Wise National Law University), which he graduated in 1987 and was sent to work in the prosecutor's office of the Mykolaiv region.
From 1987 to the present — at the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (now — the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine): postgraduate student, junior researcher, researcher, scientific secretary of the Institute, senior researcher of the Department of Problems of Criminal Law, Criminology and the Judiciary (now the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology).
Defended his PhD thesis on the topic: «Implementation of the principle of transparency in the activities of the court of first instance in criminal cases». In 1997, he was awarded the academic title of Senior Research Fellow.
The main areas of scientific activity – research into the problems of judicial and legal reform, the establishment of democratic principles, human rights and freedoms, the regulation of the foundations of justice, combating corruption, and improving the criminal justice system and procedural legislation.
Author of more than 200 scientific and scientific-journalistic works, including collective monographs, brochures, encyclopedic and magazine articles. He was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (since 2002); Scientific and Advisory Council of the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine (since 2004); Scientific and Advisory Council of the Kyiv Court of Appeal (since 2006); Scientific and Advisory Council of the Supreme Court of Ukraine (since 2007); Scientific and Advisory Council of the State Bureau of Investigation (2018–2019). Currently, he is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. 3a part-time since June 2022 — Director of the Center for War Crimes Research at the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine. In 2012, he was elected to the Kyiv City Bar Association. In January 2014, he became one of the initiators of the creation and a member of the Public Commission for the Investigation and Prevention of Human Rights Violations in Ukraine.

From March to July 2022, he was voluntarily mobilized and served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the homeland from Russian military aggression.
In 2022, he was appointed part-time to the position of Director of the Center for the Study of War Crimes at the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the NAS of Ukraine.
He worked as a member of the Scientific Advisory Councils of the Supreme Court of Ukraine and the Supreme Court, the High Economic Court of Ukraine, the Court of Appeal of Kyiv, was a member of the Scientific and Methodological Councils of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation.
Currently, he is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
He has trained 11 candidates of law in the fields of criminal procedure, forensics, and the judiciary. He was a member of the working group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the preparation of the draft Criminal Procedure Code (2004) and an advisor to the National Constitutional Council (2008).
He was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
