The 35th International Geographical Congress was held in Dublin, the capital of Ireland
On August 24–29, 2024, the 35th International Geographical Congress was held in Dublin (Ireland), held by the International Geographical Union (IGU) on the basis of the Dublin City University (DCU) under the slogan: "Celebrating the World differences».
In the work of the Congress took part acting. Head of the Department of Agrarian, Land, Environmental and Space Law of the Institute of State and Law named after V.M. Koretsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, current President of the Ukrainian Geographical Society V’yacheslav Oleshchenko. V’Yacheslav Oleshchenko delivered a report: "Transformation of territorial administration in Ukraine– principles, current situation, prospects», presided over one of the sessions of the Conference, at another — moderated the discussion, took an active part in general discussions.

According to the program of the Congress at the meeting of section C.03 "Applied geography: geography and public policy" V. Oleshchenko presented a collective report on the topic: "New challenges and prospects for the growth of geography opportunities caused by the war in Ukraine", co-authored by leaders and leading scientists of three academic institutes, four universities from different regions of Ukraine.
Speaking as part of the final discussion at the final meeting of the General Assembly, which is the highest governing body of the IGS and whose meetings are traditionally held during Congresses, V. Oleshchenko expressed his gratitude to the IGS leadership, leaders of national committees of geographers, governments and parliaments, all citizens of the respective countries for supporting Ukraine,efforts of our people in resisting Russian armed aggression, in the struggle for the affirmation of the right of peoples to self-determination and democratic development, for ensuring the rule of law and a reliable world order, for the right to life, as well as for the unanimous adoption at the initiative of the Ukrainian Geographical Society in July 2022 on at a meeting in Paris, a decision was made to expel the Russian Federation from the membership of the ISU.
At the organizational meeting of the Commission, V. Oleshchenko was elected to the steering committee of this Commission, which actively works as part of the specified international non-governmental organization, constantly supporting Ukraine.
