Awarding of the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Oleksandr Skrypniuk

On May 22, 2026, a solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council was held at the Kyiv University of Law of the NAS of Ukraine on the occasion of conferring the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Oleksandr Skrypniuk — Director of the V.M. Institute of State and Law. Koretsky of the National Academy of Law of Ukraine, Vice-President of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.

The event was attended by members of the Academic Council of the university, representatives of the scientific community, scientific and pedagogical workers, students, as well as honored guests and partners of the higher education institution.

Opening the meeting, the rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Law of Ukraine, Professor Yuriy Boshytsky emphasized that the awarding of the honorary title is a recognition of a significant personal contribution to the development of legal science, the formation of modern Ukrainian statehood, constitutionalism and legal education in Ukraine. Olexandr Skrypniuk has been supporting fruitful scientific and professional cooperation with the university for many years, actively contributing to the development of its educational, scientific and academic activities. In different years, he headed the state examination commissions, making a significant contribution to the training of highly qualified lawyers, improving the legal education system and forming high professional standards. Long-term interaction with university scientists is reflected in joint research, participation in scientific and practical conferences, round tables and professional discussions aimed at the development of legal science and modern legal education. During the ceremony, the decision of the Academic Council to award the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa was announced. The rector solemnly presented the relevant awards — diploma, robe and breastplate.

In turn, Olexandr Skrypniuk read a scientific report «The Constitution of Ukraine: 30 years since its adoption», in which he raised topical issues of the development of modern legal science and constitutionalism in Ukraine. The speaker voiced the current challenges facing Ukraine in connection with the military aggression of the Russian Federation, in particular the issues of national security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the state's resilience to internal and external threats. And also to update those provisions of the Constitution that relate to national security, in order to integrate innovative approaches to civil defense, crisis management, strategic communications mechanisms, information security, and sustainable functioning of strategic infrastructure.

In response to the speeches and questions, Olexandr Skrypniuk thanked the university staff for the high honor and emphasized the importance of consolidating the scientific community for the development of Ukrainian legal science, strengthening the rule of law, and establishing European legal values.

The participants of the event noted the many years of scientific, pedagogical, and organizational activities, significant contribution to the development of constitutional law, historical and legal research, as well as active participation in the training of highly qualified legal personnel of Professor Olexandr Skrypniuk.

After the solemn ceremony of awarding the honorary title, the participants of the event visited the Museum of Modern Law thoughts named after Yuriy Serhiyovych Shemshuchenko, during which we got acquainted with his exposition and continued meaningful communication, discussing current problems of the development of legal science and education in Ukraine.
